The Association of Commerce, Industry and Services (ACIS), last Wednesday celebrated its 20th anniversary, marked on the 5th of May 2021.
The reflection on the Business Environment in Mozambique over the last 20 years was attended by the Minister of Industry and Commerce, Carlos Mesquita, former prime minister Luísa Diogo, ACIS members, businesspeople and representatives of the private sector.
The Mozambican government is committed to strengthening dialogue and partnership with the private sector, with the aim of improving the business environment in Mozambique, Minister Mesquita said.
The improvement of the business environment involves the continuous simplification of procedures in fiscal, legislative and customs matters, in addition to financing small and medium-sized companies, he added.
Attending the event, former prime minister Luisa Diogo advocated the profound transformation of procedures in both the public and private sectors, urging in particular the simplification of tax procedures and the adjustment of legislation to the current challenges of the market economy.
Diogo, who also held the planning and finance portfolio, believes that good leadership, associated with an effective organisational team, will facilitate exploration of the vast potential of Mozambique in sectors such as tourism.
To this end, she advocated the simplification of procedures such as the granting of travel visas and the reduction of barriers to trade and to the movement of tourists.
President of the Management Board of the Association of Commerce, Industry and Services (ACIS), Luís Magaço, renewed his commitment to development, in business and beyond.
The improvement of the business environment demands, above all, access to finance.
In this perspective, the global bank Societé General, present in around 70 countries around the world and operating in Africa for over 100 years, reaffirmed, in the person of representative Sílvia Banze, its whole-hearted availability to work with the private sector.
Societé General, which has operated in Mozambique since 2015, remains committed to the development and growth of Mozambican business, Banze said.
