Wild animals continue to sow panic in Marromeu district, Sofala province, with the destruction of agricultural fields and homes a regular part of the daily routine for the district’s residents.
The towns of Chueza, Miguguni, Nensa, and Mponda are the most affected areas, with reports of constant invasion by elephants and buffalo.
The director of the Marromeu District Economic Activities Service, Júlio Lapissone, said that the animals come primarily from hunting reserves. Wildlife protected areas cover almost the entire district.
Hippos continue to devastate second-season crops. A few days ago, two people were injured while trying to scare hippos away from a sweet potato plot.
