The President of Botswana, Duma Boko, has expressed interest in strengthening sustainable, long-lasting bilateral cooperation with Mozambique in the areas of generation, transmission and distribution of energy.
Boko expressed his desire during a visit on Saturday (29-03) to the Maputo Thermoelectric Power Plant (CTM), accompanied by Mozambique’s Minister of Transport and Logistics, João Matlombe.
“This is an impressive plant, serving a noble and grand purpose, not only in the Mozambican economy, but also in the daily lives of the people of Mozambique,” he said.
The plant, a gift from the Japanese government, has a production capacity of 106 megawatts.
“What is also most important and impressive is the fact that 40% of the workforce is made up of women and young people trained in science and technology. This is an inspiration and an ambition to achieve parity,” he said.
The President of Botswana made it known that both countries were making efforts to ensure that both peoples (Mozambican and Tswana) have full access to energy.
“I am very grateful to have visited this plant, which serves as a permanent inspiration. Botswana is also working on a 300-megawatt methane and coal-fired power plant,” Duma Boko said.
The level of technical skills on display was an inspiration for Botswana, he added.
