The Migration Services of Maputo Province, southern Mozambique, on Thursday announced the reopening of the Goba border post, the main crossing with the Eswatini, after 18 months of closure due to Covid-19.
Speaking to public broadcaster Rádio Moçambique, Maputo Province Migration Services spokesperson Juca Bata said staff have been put in place and computer equipment that will be used at the crossing has been renewed.
“Everything is ready for the reopening of the Goba border post,” Bata said.
The reactivation of that post will reduce pressure on other crossing points in Maputo province, the spokesman said.
Goba is also used by those travelling to and from South Africa via Essuatíni, although their numbers are small.
Mozambique has had a total of 1,932 deaths associated with Covid-19, out of 151,325 cases.
