The District Services of Economic Activities (SDAE) in Bilene, Gaza province, are on high alert following the death of 21 cattle in recent days.
The director of the SDAE in Bilene, Gracinda Carlos, told Notícias Online that one possible cause of death is teleriosis, a disease that infects the blood cells of cattle, causing fever, anaemia, and, in severe cases, death.
“We sent samples to the laboratory in Maputo and are awaiting the results,” Carlos said.
According to the source, at least three farmers lost animals. Dani Gaza Beef, one of those affected, reportedly lost 13 Brahman cattle, resulting in a loss of just over 1.5 million meticais.
Bilene district is home to 15,000 head of cattle.
