According to eyewitness reports, the individuals were being transported in two Mazda BT50 vehicles.
Lawyer Elvino Dias had been the representative and legal advisor of Venâncio António Bila Mondlane since the end of 2023, and was the main actor in Mondlane’s legal battle within Renamo over the holding of the party’s 7th Congress, which was called against the wishes of the party’s top leadership.
Lawyer Elvino Dias, professional licence number 1599, was brutally murdered as was preparing to contest the election results of the October 9 vote, which, according to provisional results, gave victory to Frelimo and its presidential candidate Daniel Chapo, but in which a parallel count carried out by PODEMOS gave victory to Venâncio Mondlane and the party that supports him. The official results are expected to be announced by the CNE in Maputo on Thursday.
Paulo Guambe leaves behind a daughter – a minor, whose mother has already passed away – and Elvino Dias leaves behind a widow and children.
