Bial has sold the Mozambican company Medimport to CFAO Healthcare and will focus its business in Mozambique on the marketing of medicines, the company announced on Friday.
In a statement, Bial, which did not disclose the amounts involved in the deal, said that it “will focus its business in Mozambique on the marketing of medicines, similar to what happens in the international markets where it is present, having sold its import and distribution operation of pharmaceutical specialties with the sale of the company Medimport to CFAO Healthcare”.
“Considering the company’s strategic focus on Research and Development in the area of neurosciences and rare diseases, the Group decided to sell an operation that was disconnected from its ‘core business’ [main activity],” it explains.
Bial stresses that the sale of the import and distribution activity “now carried out and approved by the authorities does not interfere with the marketing of medicines” in the Mozambican market.
Medimport, founded in 1998, operates as a distributor of medicines in the Mozambican market, an activity that the Bial group carried out only in Mozambique.
CFAO Healthcare is a pharmaceutical logistics company, with a special focus on the African continent, with over 3,800 employees and a presence in over 28 countries in Africa.
