The Port of Beira could reach a historic containerized cargo handling record of 400,000 TEUs by the end of this year.
This historic milestone could be achieved thanks to recently conquered new markets in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
The managers of the cargo terminal at the Port of Beira already know that, from January to July this year, the infrastructure handled 225,000 TEUs of various cargo, an increase of 41% over last year.
The containers were transporting minerals, food and forestry products.
The figures were disclosed to Radio Mozambique by the operations director of Cornelder Moçambique, Miguel de Jenda.
With the new challenges imposed by the market fully in view, the concessionaire has already implemented a plan to expand its fertiliser and mineral terminals.
