Passenger services on the Sena railway line between Beira, in Sofala province, and Moatize (Tete) resumed this Tuesday, to general relief.
Passenger traffic on the line stopped more than two years ago as part of Covid-19 prevention measures, to the detriment of the socio-economic fabric.
Mobility and trade between the two provinces dropped precipitately.
Northern districts of Sofala province such as Caia and Chemba were worst affected by the suspension of passenger services, especially given the paucity and high cost of road transport.
Radio Mozambique interviewed José Jossene and Matias Quembo, two traders from Caia district, for whom the resumption of rail services promises to relaunch activities.
