The Beira Association of Passenger, Taxi and Rental Vans (ATABE) has handed its proposal for new mini-bus passenger transportation (Chapas) fares in to Beira Municipal Council.
On Tuesday, the draft will come before the municipal Civil Protection and Transport Systems board, where it will be analysed and discussed, and then approved or rejected.
According to the proposal, fares on the Maquinino-Estoril, Chingussura, Inhamizua and Aeroporto routes would go up from 9 to 15 meticais, while on the Macuti-Baixa routes, via Matacuane, Macuti-Baixa, via Ponta-Gêa and Munhava-Baixa, passenger would pay 10 meticais.
The proposal comes as the result of rising fuels and lubricant prices and the high cost of parts and accessories, whose need arises from the poor condition of the roads.
The last fare increase was approved in May 2015 and was aimed at ending route shortening and random setting of mini-bus fares, deemed a headache for passengers.
