Mozambique’s capital Maputo another case of kidnapping on Saturday, when a businessman from Beira was intercepted by criminals at the junction of Avenues 24 de Julho and Salvador Allende.
‘O País’ has identified the victim as Ismail Harun, businessman and owner of the Uzeir Trade Centre group in Beira.
The incident took place at around 11:00 a.m. this Saturday near the Shopping 24 building and Mimmos.
“A vehicle with four occupants came down Avenida Salvador Allende. One of the men got out of the car and forced [Harun] to get in the car. “ The victim’s driver tried to resist, but the kidnappers threatened to open fire,” one witness said, revealing that Harun was visiting a barber nearby.
The police say they have already opened an investigation to clarify the case as quickly as possible.
“We have joined the National Criminal Investigation Service and work is now underway,” police spokesman in Maputo Leonel Muchina says.
This latest abduction takes place just five days after another kidnapping, that of a young Portuguese woman in the city of Matola. The victim was released yesterday after a ransom was paid, ‘O País’ has learned.
Entrepreneurs in Beira stopped commercial activities for three days less than a month ago in protest against ongoing kidnappings in Mozambique.
