BCI (Banco Comercial e de Investimentos) have carried out tree planting and environmental education activities in the municipalities of Lichinga and Cuamba, as part of World Environment Day, celebrated on June 5th.
Bank employees and those from both municipalities on Saturday (08-06) planted more than 200 seedlings.
The parallel actions were attended by local authority representatives including the councillor responsible for Health and Environment in Lichinga, Alberto Ndala, and the councillor responsible for Economic Activities in Cuamba, Elsa Monteiro.
According to municipal representatives, the initiative will provide a better environment and, in addition to shade and the landscape beauty they provide, trees are useful for enriching soil and providing oxygen for fauna, among others benefits.
BCI’s Regional Commercial Director, Assane Elias Assane, in turn spoke of the need to do more than simply reflect on climate change, and “develop concrete projects to defend the environment in which we live”.
“It is in understanding the urgency that we launch this activity, within the framework of the Bank’s social responsibility policy, which we interpret as a commitment, in fact, to the country and to the various communities in which we operate,” he added
“We believe that planting trees constitutes an example of concrete actions, in order to ensure a healthier and more conducive environment, so that this and future generations can find a place to be, grow, develop, in a sustainable way,” Assane Elias Assane concluded.
