The Band 340ml will perform today and tomorrow at the Centro Cultural Franco-Moçambicano (CCFM), this being their first performance since 2012, the year in which the collective announced the interruption of their musical career.
The show is described by organizers as an opportunity to revive the unmistakable energy and sound that has marked generations of national, South African and other global artists who have influenced the band.
Initially, 340ml’s performance was scheduled for tomorrow, but the strong demand for tickets meant they sold out quickly, which opened up space for the band to perform in two days.
Known for its fusion of reggae, dub, jazz, afrobeat and other influences, 340ml is a Mozambican collective, based in South Africa, that emerged in 2000 and stood out on the music scene in both countries.
“It’s a rare opportunity to hear live songs from albums like ‘Moving’ (2003) and ‘Sorry for the Delay’ (2008), including the classic ‘Midnight’, which became a true anthem and won fans around the world,” says the CCFM note.
After the shows in Maputo, 340ml continues on a mini-“tour” through South Africa, with performances in Johannesburg and Cape Town, continuing its long-awaited return.
Formed in Johannesburg by four Mozambican friends, namely Pedro da Silva Pinto (vocals), Tiago Correia-Paulo (guitar), Paulo Chibanga (drums) and Rui Soeiro (bass), the band developed its own sound, mixing African rhythms with global sounds.
His debut album, “Moving” (2003), released independently before arriving on Sony Music South Africa, featured the anthem “Midnight”, a song that became a classic, marking a generation.
In 2008, they released “Sorry for the Delay”, consolidating their space in African music. The album won two South African Music Awards (SAMA), including Best Alternative Album.
With performances on several international stages, 340ml has won over a legion of fans and continues to influence new generations, remaining a reference in the African music scene.
After a hiatus in 2012, the band is back for this special show, offering an opportunity to relive the unmistakable sound that defined this era.
