Mozambique’s National Migration Service surpassed 100% of its scheduled border control actions between January and October of this year and repatriated 1,673 foreigners who were in the country illegally, the service said on Friday.
In total, the service carried out 11,023 border control actions until the end of October this year, compared with only 2,176 in the same period last year, according to migration chief superintendent, Leidita Mate.
From these actions, 1,673 foreign citizens were repatriated, 717 to Malawi, 389 to Ethiopia and 155 to the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Among the main causes of repatriation, the service highlights clandestine immigration, which was responsible for 72% of the cases.
“We appeal to all foreign citizens who are in national territory or want to enter the country to obey the conditions laid down in the law,” Mate said.
