Mozambique’s attorney general has said it is essential to create an institution geared towards recovering assets from corruption because of the duty to repay the state and society for economic crimes.
Bernardo Duce said his office was finalising a draft law to recover criminal assets from corruption.
Crime cannot be a source of enrichment, the law aims to provide powers to take away from the culprits all benefits arising or attained through criminal activity, Mr Duce added.
He said the new law would mean it would be possible to seize property, cars and money from economic and financial crimes to repay the state and corruption victims.
