Mozambique: “Attacks in Cabo Delgado are commanded by external forces”

The president of the Islamic Community of Mozambique, Abdul Rachid [Abdul Rashid Ismail], once again denied the involvement of Mozambican Muslims in the terrorist attacks that have been carried out in the province of Cabo Delgado. Rashid urged the Government not to rely solely on the use of force to put an end to the crimes, but to try to understand the motivations and take the right actions to eliminate the hotbeds.

Rashid believes that the main reason for the terrorist attacks is financial. “The soil of Cabo Delgado offers a lot of wealth, and this must be one of the causes. To create confusion so that one may be comfortable and able to exploit those riches,” he said.

For the president of the Islamic Community of Mozambique, terrorism is being fed by foreigners in collusion with ill-fated Mozambicans. “It is external forces that are coming here. I think our government should pay attention and be concerned about that and not [concerned about] closing mosques and accusing innocent Muslims,” he added.

Rashid argues that the use of force to eliminate terrorist actions in Cabo Delgado is not the only ideal way to end these gruesome acts.

“The Government should think differently and find out what is the cause that leads to the existence of terrorist activities; it is not the Muslims. “” Closing the mosques and chasing innocent Muslims will not solve anything, on the contrary, it will create a malaise in the Muslim family “-

“Ataques em Cabo Delgado são comandados por forças externas”

O presidente da Comunidade Islâmica de Moçambique, Abdul Rachid, voltou a negar que haja envolvimento de muçulmanos moçambicanos nos ataques terroristas que tem sido protagonizados na província de Cabo-Delgado. Rachid exortou ao Governo para não socorrer-se apenas ao uso da força para por fim aos crimes, mas tentar compreender as motivações e tomar as acções certas para eliminar os focos.

Rachid acredita que a principal razão dos ataques terrorista é financeira. “O solo de Cado Delgado oferece muita riqueza, e esta deve ser uma das causas. Criar confusão para poder estar a vontade e explorar essas riquezas”, disse.

Para o presidente da Comunidade Islâmica de Moçambique, o terrorismo está a ser alimentado por estrangeiros em conluio com moçambicanos de má-fé. “São forças externas que estão a vir para aqui. Eu acho que o nosso Governo devia estar atento e preocupar-se nisso e não estar a fechar mesquitas e acusar muçulmanos inocentes”, acrescentou.

Rachid defende que o uso da força para eliminar as acções de terrorismo em Cabo-delgado não é a única via ideal para por fim dos actos macabros.
