Mozambique’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation will be making a working visit to the US city of New York from this Tuesday, as part of the end of Mozambique’s mandate as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council.
A statement received by Radio Mozambique indicates that during the four-day visit, Minister Verónica Macamo will witness the final days of Mozambique’s non-permanent membership of the Security Council.
Mozambique became a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council to serve for the period of 1 January 2023 – 31 December 2024 , having chaired this UN body twice.
During its mandates, Mozambique led debates on maintaining international peace and security, combating climate change and protecting biodiversity, using technology for sustainable development and supporting dialogue on Security Council reforms.
