Unidentified assailants on Tuesday night burnt down the house of Emilio Timoteo, a member of the Tete Provincial Assembly, who was elected in 2014 on the ticket of the Mozambique Democratic Movement (MDM), according to a report on the Facebook page of the election observation coalition, the “Sala da Paz” (“Peace Room”).
The arson occurred in Calomue locality, in Angonia district. In Ngaze village, also in Calomue, the local MDM delegate was beaten up on the same night, allegedly by members of the ruling Frelimo Party, because he refused to remove the MDM flag from his house.
The MDM national spokesperson, Sande Carmona reported the incidents to Sala da Paz, and blamed Frelimo for both of them.
He accused the police of bias. When the police went to Calomue, he said, “they only opened fire to scare people, and arrested two members of the MDM”.
