Two individuals, whose identity has not been revealed, are being held at the 3rd Police Station in the city of Chimoio, Manica province, over the theft of electrical appliances in the recently opened judges’ residence in the Mozambican Heroes neighbourhood.
The detainees, who have confessed to their crime, explained that they took advantage of the absence of security guards to carry out the criminal act.
According to the PRM in Manica, the robbery took place on the night of Labour Day, when residents and security guards were euphoric following the festivities, enabling the duo to snatch household appliances valued at more than 90,000 meticais.
Some of the stolen items were recovered, as were the magical amulets that the thieves used to allegedly “weaken and divert the attention of” the security guards assigned to the lodgings of the Public Prosecutor’s Office magistrates.
PRM Manica spokesman Mouzinho Manasse said that the accused are repeat offenders who carry out robberies in homes using blunt instruments.
