Around 25,000 of the 32,000 families affected by the drought in Sofala province are receiving food assistance from the government and partners.
These are families from the districts of Chemba, Caia, Marromeu, Nhamatanda, Búzi, Chibabava and Marínguè, whose agricultural campaign has been compromised due to the lack of rain.
According to the spokesperson for the provincial Council of State Representation Services in Sofala, Ermelinda Xavier, one hundred tons of food products have already been made available.
“At the moment, taking advantage of the rains that are falling, the government is making an effort to allocate seeds and strengthen assistance, through pensioners, so that the population can produce food to ensure its sustainability,” she said.
