Individuals so far unidentified on Tuesday morning robbed two citizens of Bengali nationality in the city of Chimoio, making away with 2,940 million meticais.
According to ‘O País’, shortly after 10:00 a.m., two individuals in a light vehicle were parked in the vicinity of a bank in the city of Chimoio.
Minutes later, according to witnesses, two men of Bengali nationality got out of their own vehicle carrying a plastic bag of cash, and were robbed right outside the bank.
Marcos Chico, who described the scenario as like something out of a film, said that the criminals got out of their vehicle and fired a shot from an AK47-type weapon, while forcibly yanking away the bag containing the money.
“The bandit came out running, ripped away the plastic bag containing the money and fired a shot. The owner of the money was terrified. The bandits got in the car and left at high speed,” Chico related.
It was Camal Bachú from whose hands the cash was torn. A man of few words, he told ‘O País’ exclusively that the assailants got away with just over 1,900,000 meticais.
“They stole 1,940,000 meticais. The money was from our company,” Bachú said.
Curiously, the robbery took place in an area with a high level of police patrolling. Moreover, at the time of the incident, several UIR agents were passed through the area, but proved unable to forestall the attack.
