In the light of statements from the National Institute of Meteorology on the passage of Tropical Storm Freddy through the Mozambique Channel, the Regional Water Administration of the South (ARA-Sul) foresees an increase in the volume of water in the hydrographic basins of the Save, Govuro, Inhanombe and Mutamba rivers.
In a statement sent to ‘O País’, ARA-Sul foresees the occurrence of moderate to high floods with impacts on the Save river basin, which could affect the village of Nova Mambone, in the neighbourhoods of Matasse, Mussanga, Matique, Josina Machel, Musssassa, Jenga, Mataula, Mukumbuge, Mananga.
Floods on the Save may also affect the district headquarters of Machanga, in Sofala province.
ARA-Sul further warns that the Save floods may sever communications between Nova Mambone and Matasse.
Floods may also occur in the Inhanombe river basin, namely in the Mubalo, Chinjiguire, Marengo, Inhamússua, Barane, Manhala, Teles, Habana, Bembe, Inhabundo, Mahangue, Furvela and Inharrumbo basins, as well as causing impassibility on the Mubalo-Macavane and Chinjinguire–Lilhanga roads.
The Mutamba river basin will not escape the floods, forecast to affect the lower areas of Mutamba, Macuamene, Nhaguiviga, Dambo and Magola districts, and also impacting traffic on the Lindela-Inhambane and Agostinho Neto-Mutamba roads.
In the district of Panda, the Inhassune river basin could be flooded in Inhassune residential areas, and render the Panda-Inharrime road impassable.
