The former Ministry of Culture and Tourism, through the National Institute of Cultural and Creative Industries, launched, in October last year, the second edition of the Fund for Financing Audiovisual and Cinematographic Activities (CONFIAAC). The deadline for submitting applications is set for January 30th – next Thursday.
The fund, which falls within the scope of Law no. 1/2017, the Audio-visual and Cinema Law, as well as the Cultural and Creative Industries Policy, among other regulatory instruments, aims to encourage the development of talent and creativity in national audio-visual and cinematographic production, a sector that has attracted a large number of young people, mainly in the main urban centres, and has become a powerhouse for the generation of employment and income.
All young filmmakers, directors and producers are eligible to apply for the fund.
CONFIAAC Coordinator Plácido Mereque urges everyone involved in the seventh art to submit their projects and believes that this is a unique and necessary opportunity to boost the audio-visual and cinema sector.
“We believe that producers and directors need a direct incentive to materialize their projects and this competition has emerged to support and allow this class to be more active through this funding. This is INICC’s intervention to improve the current scenario of national cinema,” Mereque says.
Funding available for the second edition is 6,500,000.00 Mt, an amount which covers projects from anywhere in the country.
The competition aims to support and finance film production with a focus on new talent and first works, production of music videos, distribution and exhibition of audio-visual and cinematographic works.
The financing of the production of music videos, distribution and exhibition are categories of innovation in this second edition, since the first edition was essentially focused on production.
For this competition, the following modalities will be supported:
Production:
Distribution:
Exhibition:
With this modality, it is expected to receive and finance projects that can guarantee the activation of this important stage in the value chain of the audio-visual and cinematographic industry, ensuring that the works can circulate and be accessed by national and international audiences, whether in the form of exhibition in cinemas, on television, or via streaming platforms.
The financing is an initiative of the Ministry of Culture managed by the National Institute of Cultural and Creative Industries (INICC).
