The President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, said on Thursday that, by the end of the year, a further 20 computerised axial tomography (CT) scanners would be installed in health units, bringing the total number in the country to 43.
Nyusi was speaking tin the city of Xai-Xai, Gaza province, at the reopening, after rehabilitation and requalification, of the provincial hospital. The hospital provides 342 beds for maternity and surgery services, among others.
Nyusi said the provincial hospital would have CT scanning services for the diagnosis of muscular and bone diseases, tumours and other illnesses.
The head of state said the government would continue to build more hospitals, providing more equipment and qualified human resources to ensure better health care for citizens.
President Nyusi noted that the country currently has 1,854 health units, compared to 1,534 in 2015, which means that 320 new health units have been built, while others have been rehabilitated and expanded to accommodate more medical services.
Gaza Provincial Hospital has 628 health professionals, 23 of whom are specialist doctors.
