As promised, a tank to supply oxygen donated by Angola arrived in Maputo on Monday, intend to meet the needs of Covid-19 patients with respiratory difficulties.
Manufactured in Angola, the tank weighs 16 tonnes, and can supply oxygen to 200 beds. It arrived on a cargo plane of the Angolan air force, in compliance with a promise made at the weekend by Angolan President João Lourenço in a phone call with his Mozambican counterpart, Filipe Nyusi.
Speaking at Maputo international airport, when the cargo plane arrived, Mozambique’s Deputy Health Minister, Lidia Cardoso, thanked the Angolan government for its gesture, and said the tank will be installed in the Covid-19 treatment centre in the Mavalane general hospital in Maputo.
The Angolan ambassador to Mozambique, José João Manuel, said the donation of this equipment was unequivocal proof of the good relations between the two states and peoples. He hoped that more support in the health area would be forthcoming in the near future.
Health cooperation between Angola and Mozambique goes in both directions. Last December the Mozambican government donated anti-retroviral drugs, used to treat HIV, to Angola.
