The National Criminal Investigation Service (SERNIC) this Friday afternoon arrested an individual of Angolan nationality at Maputo International Airport, as he was arriving from Brazil with 7.9 kilograms of cocaine.
According to SERNIC’s spokesman, Hilário Lole, in Maputo, the detainee revealed that he had travelled to Brazil, on the 6th of January, to visit family members and intended to make a tourist stopover in Maputo.
Already at the airport, the man raised suspicions when he abandoned one of his suitcases, , upon realizing the presence of police and airport inspection authorities.
“After the search, it was found that there were around 17 packets of coffee inside the luggage. From the meticulous work carried out, it was confirmed that the packages contained a white powder whose preliminary examination was positive for cocaine, ”said Lole.
He added that the suspect would have received a message with instructions on the destination of the narcotics and, based on the data, SERNIC will work in coordination with other police specialties for clarification.
