Mozambique, Angola, and Equatorial Guinea are the Portuguese-speaking countries featured at African Energy Week (AEW), which kicks off on Monday in Cape Town, South Africa, bringing together investors, political figures, and business leaders.
“As the largest gathering of energy leaders, investors, policymakers, and industry innovators on the continent, AEW attracts over 7,000 stakeholders from more than 100 countries,” the programme reads, stating that “AEW is not just a conference; it is where agreements are signed, policies are defined, and partnerships are established, creating tangible business opportunities in the oil, gas, renewable energy, and infrastructure sectors.”
Among the scheduled sessions, Angola will be highlighted in a discussion on the use of local labour, and will also feature in sessions on onshore oil and gas exploration.
“While Angola’s offshore sector has traditionally dominated the country’s oil narrative, onshore exploration is re-emerging as a strategic frontier with significant potential to diversify and expand the country’s hydrocarbon production base,” says the African Energy Chamber, which is organising the event.
“With underexplored onshore basins and a renewed government focus on developing local content, Angola is creating favourable conditions for new and existing operators to exploit its onshore reserves,” the meeting’s announcement states.
Mozambique will have a panel dedicated to presenting investment proposals, and the organisers say the country “has created conditions to re-establish operations at the emblematic US$20 billion liquefied natural gas (LNG) project in Cabo Delgado province, signalling a new opportunity for significant gas development in the country.”
Participants in this debate will explain why gas is “fundamental to accelerating socioeconomic progress” in Mozambique, they anticipate.

Last week, Equatorial Guinea’s Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mining Development announced that he intends to usher in “a new era” in the oil sector when he announces the new round of oil exploration licences during the international conference.
“The EG 2026 licensing cycle represents a crucial step in maximising Equatorial Guinea’s offshore and onshore potential; it will attract renowned investors, stimulate exploration, and promote sustainable growth,” said Antonio Oburu Ondo, previewing the announcement to be made on Monday.
In its presentation on Monday, the first day of AEW, Equatorial Guinea will emphasise that the new licensing cycle beginning in 2026 will be “the official platform to usher in a new wave of investment and exploration success in Equatorial Guinea,” which is seeking to offset a decline in production in recent years.
“This cycle will offer opportunities in new areas to explore proven and innovative deposits at moderate depths, supported by first-class fiscal measures and increasingly attractive conditions,” Minister Oburu Ondo emphasised, as quoted in the statement.
