The National Roads Administration (ANE) will acquire 12 more radar speed control cameras, mainly for the main national corridors.
The purchase occurs at a time when the road authorities have been increasing traffic monitoring equipment, with an emphasis on the recent acquisition of 12 mobile laboratory vehicles to boost monitoring in all provinces.
The acquisition of the radars is intended to reduce the number of accidents and traffic violations and improve safety on public roads.
In order to reverse the situation, the process to contract an entity is underway, and should supply the speed monitoring equipment within a few months
According to a note from ANE, the acquisition of the devices should cost just over 13 million meticais, financed by the World Bank, and is part of the Southern African Trade and Connectivity Project (SACP).
This project aims to strengthen Mozambique’s potential to become a trade and logistics hub in the region, focusing on reforms inherent to trade between Mozambique and Malawi. It also aims to implement improvements along the Beira and Nacala corridors, along the Ponta do Ouro border with South Africa, including the Maputo Corridor.
