The National Roads Administration in Inhambane has lodged a court appeal to secure the demolition of five buildings erected along National Road Number 1 in Massinga district.
The buildings in question were built with permission of the city council, but without consulting road authorities (ANE).
Five hundred kilometres of National Road Number 1 traverse Inhambane province. The most important road in the country, it crosses five district village headquarters, each with large concentrations of people and assets.
Because of this, it is common to see projects built beside the EN1 with little regard for safety regulations. The National Roads Administration wants to bring this situation to an end, and already has court orders to demolish some buildings.
As much of the work was built with the permission of the municipality, Elcídio Parruque warns that ANE will take all necessary measures to fulfil its mandate.
