The National Roads Administration (ANE) has banned, with immediate effect, the movement of people and goods over the metal bridge over the Incomati river between Calanga and Machubo in Manhiça district, Maputo province.
According to ANE, the measure is the result of the observation of severe corrosion of the metal elements and the advanced state of deterioration of the bridge’s joints, while taking into account its probable useful life and the risk of collapse, a situation putting both the infrastructure and users at risk.
“While the inspection and preparation of the project for rehabilitation works on the bridge leading to improved passability and user safety are underway,” the ANE “recommends that motorists use alternative routes.”
