The Mozambican Attorney General’s Office is to sign a memorandum of understanding with Zambia’s Public Prosecutor’s Office concerning legal and judicial cooperation in combating organised crime, according to a statement released yesterday.
“The memorandum is part of the establishment of a mechanism for cooperation between the parties and aims at broader legal and judicial cooperation in combating transnational organised crime,” the Mozambican Attorney General’s document reads.
Among the main areas of cooperation, the memorandum highlights the fight against terrorism financing, corruption and trafficking in drugs, weapons and human organs, as well as crimes against biodiversity.
The partnership comes as part of the meeting of the Executive Committee of the Association of African Prosecutors, which starts Friday in Maputo.
The purpose of the meeting is to prepare the organization’s annual conference.
The annual conference of the Association of African Prosecutors will be held in Mauritius in November, and representatives from South Africa, Namibia, Tanzania, Guinea-Conakry, Angola, Egypt, Uganda, Niger, Rwanda and Lesotho are expected to attend.
