The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, José Pacheco, yesterday received his Venezuelan counterpart, Jorge Alberto Arreaza Montserrat.
Jorge Arreaza started on Tuesday a three-day visit to Mozambique.
The purpose of the visit is to reinforce political-diplomatic relations and bilateral cooperation between Venezuela and Mozambique, as well as an opportunity to exchange of views on the political, economic and social realities of both countries and international affairs.
During the meeting the ministers will sign an agreement on visa waiver on diplomatic and service passports.
A Memorandum of Understanding on the recognition of certificates, degrees or diplomas of higher education will also be signed.
Who is Jorge Arreaza Montserrat?
Jorge Alberto Arreaza Montserrat (born 6 June 1973) is a Venezuelan politician who has held several important positions in the administration of President Hugo Chávez and his successor Nicolás Maduro. He is currently Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Born in Caracas, Arreaza Montserrat received a degree in international studies from the Central University of Venezuela (UCV) and was awarded a scholarship by the Gran Mariscal de Ayacucho Foundation during the 1990s, which allowed him to earn a master’s degree in European Policy Studies at University of Cambridge, England. At UCV, he also worked as a journalist and university teacher, in addition to working as an announcer and interviewer on several public television venues in Venezuela, and as host of the television show Diálogo abierto.
Arreaza Montserrat was appointed Vice President of Venezuela and served from 2013 to 2016.[3] He previously served as Minister of Science and Technology from 2011 to 2013. He became Chavez’s son-in-law in 2007, after marrying Chavez’s eldest daughter, Rosa Virginia. Throughout the final stages of Chavez’s illness, Arreaza served as unofficial spokesman of the Chavez family.
Arreaza has dismissed the opposition criticisms that the government is using the army to promote an ideology, which is against the 1999 constitution, saying “the military are Chávez-militants who will guarantee the socialist model in Venezuela”. (Source: Wikipedia)
