The governors of the provinces Cabo Delgado and Niassa in Mozambique, and those of Mtwara and Songea in Tanzania, will resume annual meetings – suspended for almost five years – to assess matters of good neighbourliness and reinforce cooperation in the social, economic and political areas.
The announcement of the resumption was made by the Secretary of State for Cabo Delgado province, Armindo Ngunga, after a meeting with the High Commissioner of Tanzania in Mozambique, Phaustine Kasike, on Friday.
Speaking to journalists, Ngunga said that, in order to consolidate the brotherly and historical ties which unite the two peoples and promote closer cooperation in the social, economic, political and cultural areas, the parties pledged to do everything to ensure that the annual meetings of the governors resumed as soon as possible.
Appointed to the post of High Commissioner of Tanzania to Mozambique about six months ago, Phaustine Kasike said that he had received instructions from his government to re-establish the meetings as soon as possible.
The last joint Mozambique-Tanzania governors’ meeting took place in December 2016, in the city of Pemba.
