Rwanda’s President Paul Kagame believes his country and Mozambique share the same responsibilities and vision to continue the struggle for prosperity, security and dignity for the sake of their own people.
Speaking at the state banquet offered in honour of his counterpart, Filipe Nyusi, Kagame said both Rwanda and Mozambique have followed the same path of liberation and share a common vision for African integration.
“Our countries have gained the freedom to trace their own destiny. It was conquered at a very high price”, he said, adding that “our responsibility is to continue the struggle for prosperity, security and dignity of our fellow citizens. We are counting on the next generation to build on and sustain those gains and expand them”.
Kagame, who is also the incumbent President of the African Union, pointed out that one of the best ways for sustaining the gains achieved over the last few years is by improving the effectiveness of the organisation’s organs and initiatives.
“There is no better way to continue our journey of liberation than to combine our respective strengths and capabilities and transform the lives of our peoples,” said Kagame, in reference to the African Free Trade Agreement that seeks to remove barriers to African countries.
On Thursday the Mozambican President started a 3-day state visit to Rwanda at the invitation of his counterpart.
