Cabo Verde and Mozambique will strengthen cooperation in the areas of labour and social security, under the terms of a memorandum of understanding signed in Maputo between the sector’s ministers, it was announced on Monday.
The agreement aims to “strengthen long-term bilateral relations to promote common interests and mutual benefits, particularly in the area of labour and social security”, and was signed as part of a visit to Mozambique by Cabo Verde’s minister of state for family, inclusion and social development, Fernando Elísio Freire, at the invitation of his Mozambican counterpart Margarida Adamugy Talapa.
The main aim of the four-day official visit is precisely to strengthen the ties of co-operation and friendship between the two countries, through the signing of a memorandum between the two ministries, according to a Cabo Verdean government press release.
The agreement will allow the two countries to exchange experiences through study visits and technical assistance, short-term practical internships in different organisational structures and training to strengthen technical capacity in different fields.
It will also enable the formulation of projects and proposals to attract financial and other resources made available to member states of the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP) and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
The memorandum will allow for the promotion and organisation of seminars, workshops, conferences, joint studies and projects, mutual support in the production of regulations on social security matters and the sharing of experiences, good practices, information and documentation.
The Cabo Verdean minister’s trip will also include visits to various institutions, including Mozambique’s national social security institute (INSS), as well as meetings with counterparts from the country’s social areas.
