Gemo is one of the country’s most experienced prosecutors, and between 2008 and 2024 she was director of the Central Office for the Fight against Corruption. Since 2024, she has been representing the Public Prosecutor’s Office in the Accounts Section of the Administrative Tribunal.
The Assembly also ratified the appointment of Matilde de Almeida as Deputy President of the Supreme Court. She was elected with 183 votes in her favour. She has been a judge on the Supreme Court since 2012.
According to Ana Comoane, chairperson of the Assembly’s Constitutional Affairs, Human Rights and Legality Committee, the appointee demonstrated “exceptional technical-legal mastery, extensive knowledge of the Mozambican judicial reality, clarity of purpose and institutional vision aligned with constitutional values and the appropriate attitude to become Vice-President of the Supreme Court”.
