A group believed to be made up of ‘Naparamas’ militia members a few days ago beat and stripped a nurse working at the health post of Papai, in Namuno district, Cabo Delgado province, accusing her of spreading cholera.
The incident was reported by Namuno district administrator Maria Felisbela Lázaro , who said that, in addition to being beaten, the nurse was forced by her assailants to walk naked through the village.
Maria Felisbela Lázaro admitted that the situation in Namuno was beyond the control of the district government and has asked the provincial government to intervene.
“The head of the Papai Administrative Post was persecuted and walked all night to reach the Namuno district headquarters,” Maria Felisbela Lázaro complains.
“Community leaders and their families have abandoned their villages and sleep in the forest. The Naparamas beat community leaders, burn down their houses and nothing happens to them – they continue with impunity.”
