A Tanzanian woman detained a few days ago by the National Criminal Investigation Service (SERNIC) in Cabo Delgado, is accused of leading a network of illegal miners operating in the Montepuez Ruby Mining concession area.
According to a press release seen by ‘Carta’, the woman lived in the village of Nanhupo, in the administrative post of Namanhumbir, Montepuez district, in Cabo Delgado province.
The detainee, the SERNIC note says, is identified as one of the main leaders of the illegal miners network in Montepuez ,and a key player in the illegal ruby trade.
SERNIC says that the detention of the Tanzanian citizen results from investigative work carried out by the institution following the recent death of two illegal gold miners in the mining concession.
