The President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, today laid the first stone for the construction of the Judicial Court of Infulene, on the outskirts of Maputo, the country’s capital.
Speaking on the occasion, President Nyusi reflected on the initiative’s prospects.
“By 2023, that is, by the end of the present five-year period, all districts in the country will have buildings suitable for the functioning of the courts,” he said.
The president emphasised that, to improve the condition of the courts and bolster access to justice, the government would, in the next few years, refurbish existing buildings as well as constructing new ones all over the country.
The laying of the first stone in Infulene, in Matola district, is the first of several acts to be carried out in other districts of the country as part of the “One District, One Building Fit for a Court” [“Um Distrito, Um Edifício Condigno para o Tribunal”] initiative.
“This event is an important milestone in improving access to justice, one of citizens’ rights. The initiative materializes the commitment that the Government assumed when recognising that infrastructure constitutes an important aspect of social development and the improvement of the provision of services to citizens,” President Nyusi said.
