The Mozambique Airports company is to boost revenue by creating business centres and hosting events at the country’s airports, starting with the first Gems and Minerals Fair at Nacala International Airport in September.
Construction will also start on a gems and mineral trade centre later this year.
Also at Nacala, an airport city development of about 300 hectares comprising hotels, hospitals, universities, financial institutions, and other business promotion services is planned.
Mozambique Airports chairman said the company was negotiating with the Bank of Mozambique to site its northern regional headquarters at the new Nacala airport city, located in Nampula province.
The company intends to promote a smaller airport city project at Maputo International Airport as well, though in an area smaller than that of Nacala.
Also proposed is the establishment of another airport city next to the Nampula Airport, which will also count on hotel infrastructure, conference and trade centres, among other facilities.
