Mozambique Airlines (LAM) on Thursday suffered a ransomware attack on the company’s servers, affecting e-mail and some customer services, the state-owned company announced on Friday.
The airline’s computer system suffered an attack of the ‘ransomware’ type, that is, a blockage following which a ransom is demanded, the statement reads.
LAM indicated that the company’s IT technicians had eliminated “the actions of the attack”, providing “alternative means for the operation of the affected areas, with the emphasis on e-mail and related services”.
The service platform “is being gradually replaced, with the objective of guaranteeing the effective and safe resumption of activities”.
“The bookings system and passenger data work in ‘the cloud’,” using remote servers accessible via the Internet, “so they were safeguarded”, the statement concluded.
