The Mozambique Chamber of Commerce is participating in the 1st Korea-Africa Summit, a two-day event commencing Tuesday (04), to be held in Seoul, the capital of this Asian nation, with a focus on the industrialization of the country.
The Summit, themed “Building the Future Together: Economic Growth, Sustainability, and Solidarity,” will see the participation of Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi, who will join over 30 Heads of State and Government expected to attend the event.
For the occasion, the Mozambique Chamber of Commerce is bringing along a delegation comprising approximately 30 entrepreneurs from various sectors, including agriculture, manufacturing, fisheries, among others.
“As we know, South Korea had a similar path to Mozambique. However, in a very short period, it managed to achieve the levels of development that we can all witness today,” said Teresa Muenda, Secretary-General of the Mozambique Chamber of Commerce.
Therefore, explained the source, “we want to leverage the experience that Korean entrepreneurs have and see if we can convince them to invest in Mozambique.”
Muenda noted that currently, Mozambique exports many raw materials such as graphite and copper. Therefore, Muenda said, “the Mozambique Chamber of Commerce wants to see if it can mobilize Korean entrepreneurs to invest in these areas and thus help the government in the industrialization process that we all aspire to.”
As a means of ensuring ongoing contact between Korean and Mozambican entrepreneurs, businessmen from both countries will sign two memoranda of understanding. The first will be with the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the second with the Korea International Trade Association.
The Mozambique Chamber of Commerce believes that the signing of the mentioned memoranda will help further strengthen commercial relations. The association will also appoint a delegate who will serve as the focal point for Korean entrepreneurs interested in investing in Mozambique and vice versa.
“Therefore, this will be our 24th international delegation to be established worldwide,” emphasized the source.
Muenda goes further and highlights the importance of the event, stating that it is an excellent opportunity to explore the presence of other African countries also participating in the Summit.
“We know that, at this moment, we are taking great strides towards intra-African trade, and this will be a great window for Mozambican entrepreneurs to exchange experiences and business opportunities with other African entrepreneurs,” she said.
During the event, participants will discuss collaborative solutions to promote collective strength and solidarity for sustainable development, with a focus on addressing global challenges such as climate change, food security, supply chain stability, and health security.
