As part of Thailand’s continued efforts in supporting Mozambican farmers to increase their productivity and improve their livelihoods, the Royal Thai Embassy in Maputo showcased various Thai-made agricultural machineries and equipment during this year’s FACIM 59.
Quality products ranging from multi-purposed power tillers to 3-in-1 rice millers which boast reliability, durability and innovation at an affordable price received widespread interest at the fair.
Other Thai quality products such as canned seafood, condiments, snacks and beverages, medicine, automobile parts from Thai companies seeking to do business in Mozambique also attracted interest from the public and local distributors.
During his visit to Thailand’s booth, President Filipe Nyusi was particularly interested in Thai canned seafood products and asked the Thai Ambassador, Soradjak Puranasamriddhi to invite Thai investors to set up manufacturing bases in Mozambique where there are rich marine resources.
A few days prior to FACIM 59, the Royal Thai Embassy invited guests from various sectors including representatives of the Mozambican Government and agricultural associations, United Nations and international donor agencies, media, as well as the private sector to a field demonstration of Thai agricultural machineries in the rice growing district of Matutuíne.
On an actual rice field belonging to members of the Union of Agrarian Associations of Matutuíne (UAAMAT), Thai power tillers were operated by young men who were trained just a day earlier, demonstrating the machines’ user-friendly characteristic, as well as suitability
and effectiveness on Mozambican soil and climate.
In his welcoming remarks, the Thai Ambassador emphasized Thailand’s readiness to share with Mozambique her wealth of knowledge on agriculture and machineries that would help advance agricultural development in the country, thus improving the quality of life of farmers.
He encouraged international donors to consider introducing these machines to ongoing and future development projects, as well as to partner with Thailand in helping Mozambique achieve sustainable development.
Mr. Shannon Lee Ferry, Advisor to the Federation of Thai Industry, shared his experience as an expert on Thai agricultural machineries and its successful application in other African countries such as Kenya and Uganda. As a representative of Thai manufacturers who are ready to export their agricultural machineries to Mozambique, Mr. Ferry urged participants in the event to consider these products as an ideal solution for farmers to raise their outputs while minimize inputs such as cost and labor. He also ensured that Thai products would come with knowledge transfer and training, as well as maintenance services.
Thailand and the Royal Thai Embassy will continue to support agricultural and sustainable development in Mozambique, and welcome opportunities for collaboration with the Mozambican Government, local and international partners, and the private sector in this regard.
