With the aim of providing greater comfort to patients admitted to the oncology department at Maputo Central Hospital (HCM), Access Bank Mozambique on Tuesday (17-01) donated a batch of mattresses.
The donation, which falls within the scope of the Bank’s Social Responsibility programme, was carried out in coordination with Associação Casa Rosa, a non-profit organisation that supports cancer patients and in this case helped Access Bank identify the oncology ward’s most pressing needs.
In the same context, Access Bank also donated one year’s television subscription, so that patients continue to stay informed and have access to some entertainment.
This is the second year that Access Bank has provided support to the oncology department in the largest hospital unit in the country.
The delivery of donations was presided over by the Director of the Legal Department of Access Bank Mozambique, Sidónio Barata, who said that “the Bank remains attentive to the needs of Mozambicans in various areas”, noting that “the health area has deserved special attention ” from the institution.
“Obviously, we cannot bring all the comforts of home to the hospital, but we aim to get close and thereby contribute to the recovery of patients,” he said.
Mozambique registers about 3,000 cases of cancer annually, with the HCM seeing about ten new cases per month. Access Bank Mozambique remains attentive to the needs of this hospital unit in particular, especially the oncology department. In 2021, it donated household appliances such as refrigerators, microwaves and TV sets.
With this follow-on donation, Access Bank reinforces its commitment to Mozambique and Mozambicans, positioning itself as a socially committed bank which contributes to the well-being of all.
