The cost of the socio-economic reconstruction of Palma in Cabo Delgado, recent target of terrorist attacks, is estimated at about seven billion meticais (US$113.2 million), Minister of State Administration and Public Service Ana Comoana said on Monday, after visiting the town at the behest of President Nyusi.
“It is difficult, extremely difficult, shocking. It is violent and revolting, because the administrative machinery has been destroyed. These are infrastructures, and behind all this administrative machine and infrastructure are the human, financial and patrimonial resources that took centuries to build up. And in one stroke, we see it all lost,” Minister Comoana said.
“We have to prepare our administrative machinery to reinstall [itself]. We have no other option but to raise Palma again, and for that, we have to be prepared,” she added.
