Around 4,000 workers at Açucareira de Xinavane in Manhiça district, Maputo province, have been on strike for about a week. The workers are demanding a salary readjustment and the payment of a bonus for achieving the sugarcane production target.
The Permanent Secretary of the Government of the Manhiça district, José Licucu, notes that, after almost a week of negotiations between the employers and the workers, there is still no solution in sight.
Negotiations are expected to continue today.
“Only two or three points remain unresolved, and workers feel they should not return to work until these three points are resolved,” he said.
Most of the workers on strike at Açucareira de Xinavane belong to the agriculture sector.
