31 measles deaths in Mozambique from July to January - AIM report

Mozambique recorded 77 new cases of the novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases to 2,991, remaining with 19 deaths, the Government announced on Tuesday (August 18).
In the last 24 hours, 627 tests were performed in the country, of which 626 in public sector laboratories and one in a private sector laboratory (Maputo City).
Of these new suspected cases tested, 550 came back negative and 77 were positive for COVID-19. Of these, sixty-nine (69) cases are individuals of Mozambican nationality and eight (8) cases are foreign individuals, of which: one (1) individual of Zimbabwean nationality, one (1) individual of Brazilian nationality, two (2) individuals of Malawian nationality and four (4) individuals of Dominican nationality.
Of the seventy-seven (77) new cases reported today, sixty-two (62) are locally transmitted and fifteen (15) are imported. Of the total imported cases, fourteen (14) are of Mozambican nationality and one (1) is Zimbabwean.
Most of the cases announced today were recorded in the city of Maputo (49), followed by Maputo province (22), Niassa (03), Sofala (02) and Cabo Delgado (01).
“The cases reported today are in isolation at home and the identification of their contacts is currently underway,” the document reads.
Of the cases so far registered in Mozambique, 2,762 are locally transmitted and 229 are imported ,
The country recorded another 51 patients who have fully recovered from COVID-19; twelve (12) in Cabo-Delgado Province, nine (9) in Nampula Province, two (2) in Inhambane Province, one (1) in Maputo Province and twenty-seven (27) in Maputo City.
Of the fifty-one (51) recovered cases reported today, forty-five (45) are Mozambican nationals and six are foreign individuals.
The cumulative number of recoveries stands at 1.247 (41% of the reported cases).
Health authorities also indicate that there are 13 people hospitalised and that “they suffer from various chronic pathologies associated with Covid-19”.
1,723 active cases
So far, 19 persons died of Covid-19 and two others died for different causes.

Since the announcement of the first case of Covid-19 in Mozambique, on March 22, the country tested 79,504 suspected cases, having screened more than 1.8 million people.
28,308 suspected cases of Covid-19 were placed under home quarantine and 4,388 continue to be monitored by Mozambican health authorities.
The Covid-19 pandemic has already claimed at least 774,832 lives and infected more than 21.9 million people in 196 countries and territories, according to a report by the French agency AFP.
The disease is transmitted by a new coronavirus detected in late December in Wuhan, a city in central China.
