Seven minors, aged between 11 and 16, were recently rescued from captivity in places where they were being held for the purposes of sexual exploitation in Angónia district, Tete province.
The provincial Director of Gender, Children and Social Action said that the cases have already been reported to the competent authorities and will follow the appropriate legal procedures.
“Parents and guardians from home must monitor their children, and in society, so that we can fight for the end of this. Premature unions are a major concern and we have to denounce them,” said Graziela Portimão, quoted today by Radio Mozambique.
Similar cases occur in almost the entire province, but they are not reported, according to Portimão.
