About 7.2 billion meticais (around US$98.6 million at current exchange rates) are needed for the implementation of the National Institute for Disaster Management (INGC) Contingency Plan for floods, cyclones, urban floods and drought.
The information was shared in Maputo yesterday by INGC general director Luísa Meque after a Coordinating Council for Disaster Management meeting led by Prime Minister Carlos Agostinho do Rosário.
More than 1.6 million Mozambicans are at risk of being affected by adverse weather in the current rainy season, Luísa Meque said, and, in order to guarantee assistance, the Coordinating Council for Disaster Management had outlined a contingency plan to be submitted to the Council of Ministers for approval.
Luísa Meque observed that, of the 7.2 billion meticais required, the government had already secured 800 million meticais for the implementation of some aspects of the plan.
