Valter Danone, the six-year-old boy who became popular after a case of alleged defamation and injury to the state filed by the Attorney General of the Republic (PGR) in the city of Chimoio following his satirical video portraying corruption within the Traffic Police, has been appointed ambassador for DECA products, Notícias reported on Friday, December 16.
Produced by a British company dedicated to the processing of cereals and meat, in Chimoio, Manica province, DECA products include such brands as ‘Nic Naks’ and ‘Chips’.
A contract will be signed between DECA and the minor’s representatives with days, whereby the company will paper an unspecified sum to make Danone the ‘face’ of the company, especially its ‘Chips’ and ‘Nik Naks’ brands [DecaSnax].
For the first three months, Danone will be involved in advertising DECA products, after which his face will appear on product packaging.
The information was confirmed by Danone’s family lawyer, who said that choosing the young comedian was a way of expressing solidarity with the child, his friends and relatives, who were taken to court because of a video satirising the behaviour of the Traffic Police on public roads.
A DECA source, quoted by Notícias, said that the campaign was taking advantage of the fame and popularity that the boy had achieved in order to to promote and project the image, products and the company’s brand
Valter Danone and the two friends who appear in the video are facing a court case in the Judicial court of the City of Chimoio.
The case was filed by the PGR for allegedly depicting “a pejorative image of the Protection Police and the Traffic Police (PT) in the country”.
The PGR in Chimoio accuses the minors and their relatives of slandering and defaming the Mozambican state by vulgarising the PT’s image.
In addition to DECA’s solidarity, Danone’s group was invited to Maputo a few days ago by Mozambican singer, Lorena Nhate, to take part in the video of a song recorded by the singer.
Danone and his friends have also appeared on several children’s TV programs, and in interviews expressing solidarity with them.
